Life is very difficult for Tibetans living under Chinese control, because protest invariably provokes a harsh reaction. And yet if the Chinese are serious about wanting to normalize the situation in Tibet, I believe they need to recognise the grave problems that exist there, as well as the genuine grievances and deep resentments of the Tibetan people. We may live in a distant and remote land, but like everyone else, we Tibetans want to live in peace and happiness and like everyone else we have a rigth to do so. I am grateful to Patricio Estay for the dedication he has shown to our cause and hope readers of this book, and others who view his photographs, may also be inspired to lend us their support.
